Abington Township Commemorates the 80th Anniversary of D-Day

    • 9:30 AM: Doors open
    • 10 AM: Simulcast of the ceremony at the National World War II Memorial in Washington, DC (description below)
  • Afterwards: Memorial reflections by Congresswoman Madeleine Dean and State Representative Ben Sanchez
  • Following the event, veterans are invited to Rep. Sanchez's District Office (directly across the street at 1175 Old York Road) for the Veterans' ID and Homeowner Event cohosted by Montgomery County Recorder of Deeds Jeanne Sorg. 

D-Day at the WWII Memorial

Come together to honor a pivotal moment in history as we mark the 80th Anniversary of Operation Overlord (D-Day). 

On June 6th, the Friends of the National World War II Memorial will host special activities at the World War II Memorial in Washington, DC.

Ceremony: At 10 AM on June 6th, gather with us for an Operation Overlord (D-Day) 80th Anniversary Commemoration in the main plaza of the World War II Memorial, facing the Rainbow Pool. As part of the ceremony, WWII veterans and representatives from Allied Nations involved in the Normandy Campaign will lay wreaths at the Memorial's Freedom Wall. This ceremony is a heartfelt tribute to the bravery of over 2 million Allied service members who participated in Operation Overlord and honors the memory of more than 225,000 Allies who made the ultimate sacrifice.
