The purpose of the Abington Noble Transit-Oriented Development project is to advance Abington Township’s vision for a transit-oriented development (TOD) center near the SEPTA Noble Station. This study builds on the concepts recommended as part of the 2008 Old York Road Corridor Improvement Plan and coordinates with Penn DOT’s Old York Road bridge project and SEPTA’s planned Noble Station improvements. By leveraging the existing Old York Road/ PA 611 corridor, SEPTA’s R-3 Regional Rail line, and other existing infrastructure assets; making strategic improvements to the public realm; and planning for follow-through private-sector investments, the Abington Noble Transit-Oriented Development project will have a profound impact on the safety, connectivity, quality of life, and economic viability of a critical area of Abington Township and be a catalyst for future, sustainable growth in the community.

This plan identifies a number of important strategies that will foster further economic development of the Keswick Village area, while they will help to strengthen the fabric of the adjacent residential neighborhoods. Such strategies include streetscape enhancements, business and economic development, and parking improvements.

As an effort to enhance its bicycle network and plan for future transportation needs, Abington Township commissioned this study to develop a comprehensive, township-wide network of bicycle routes and trails that link individual neighborhoods and various destinations in and around the Township.  The Township applied for, and received a Transportation and Community Development (TCDI) grant from the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission (DVRPC) to complete this Township Master Bicycle Plan. This plan is intended to serve as a guide for the development of future bicycle facilities in the Township.

The Old York Road Improvement Plan is the product of year-long study by Abington Township examining the current circumstances of the Old York Road (PA Route 611) corridor, a 2.5 mile long segment of roadway and adjoining parcels of land from Rydal Road in the north to Moreland Road in the south, and advancing the linked caused of economic development, multi-modal mobility, and improved visual quality.

The Roslyn Community Revitalization Plan began in September 2009 and was completed in April 2010. The Roslyn Business District is a part of the Montgomery County Community Revitalization Program, which provides funding for physical improvements needed to facilitate investment and enhance economic opportunities for businesses and residents. To be eligible for Revitalization Program funding, the Township must maintain a current Revitalization Plan. Plans must be updated a minimum of every seven years, and this Plan is an update to the 2002 Roslyn Community Revitalization Plan.

This plan focuses on a healthy future for the Roslyn community, paying particular attention to the issues of appropriate land use and business mix, the appearance and scale of development and tools to enhance multi-modal transportation access to businesses from the surrounding neighborhoods. The planning time frame is relatively short – only five to seven years – so the plan attempts to identify projects that can be implemented in that time frame while building a foundation for future improvements.

Abington Township completed this Walk Park Train Abington Plan to maximize the capacity, quality and efficacy of Abington’s transportation infrastructure. As a follow up to the Abington Master Bicycle Plan (2016), Walk Park Train Abington will allow the Township to address many issues raised during the Bicycle Master Planning process that could not be addressed in that study. This plan can be a model program of how local governments can assist a transportation authority to increase capacity and connections to a regional rail system. The plan suggests opportunities for additional parking near train stations and other strategies to connect residents to mass transit and to each other. The plan also suggests an implementation and funding strategy.
