The purpose of this project is to provide for the safe movement of vehicles and pedestrians, provide designated parking areas on Edge Hill Road and Tyson Avenue between Easton Road and Jenkintown Road, and alleviate existing flooding and erosion problems in the project area

The project's anticipated completion date is July 2021.

Tyson Avenue will remain a two way street. The middle strip will be removed and space for parallel parking along both sides of the street will be made available. The center of the new roadway will be the center of the existing middle strip. Please see the image below which compares the existing conditions to the future conditions. 

Edge Hill Road will be converted to a one-way street, traveling eastbound, from Tyson Avenue to Bradfield Road. It will continue to serve as a two-way street between Bradfield Road and Easton Road. Please see image below which compares the existing conditions to the future conditions. 

 

Traffic calming measures incorporated into the project include curb extensions, on-street parking, multi-way stop controls, one-way streets, and roadway narrowing with edge lines. The presence of sidewalks and crosswalks will also make the roadways more pedestrian oriented and safer. 

If an area is being worked on and there is the potential that it may impede a property owner's access to a portion of their property, the contractor C. Abbonizio will make the property owner aware. C. Abbonizio's protocol is to distribute flyers and speak with the impacted property owner. If unable to reach the property owner, a flyer with information will be left at the property. 

Your utility provider is responsible for notifying you during construction. Utility work being conducted concurrently with the PennDOT project is not being funded by PennDOT and not in control of PennDOT’s contractor (Abbonizio). During design, PennDOT is responsible for notifying impacted utility companies of the upcoming roadway project to give them an opportunity to upgrade their facilities and relocate them as necessary. During construction, the various utility work gets completed by the utility owner or a contractor the utility companies hire. The utility companies follow their own protocol and they may not match PennDOT’s system during construction. Residents are advised to reach out to the individual utility company to address specific issues. The contact information should be available on the utility company website.

Filter mulch socks are in place to delay flow of water in order to stop sediment.  This delay will allow any sediment to settle while allowing water to flow through the sock.  No water will be dammed up, only sediment.  If excessive sediment is retained by the sock, the contractor is required to clean the sediment to allow the sock to function properly.  This is a typical detail from PennDOT and the Montgomery County Conservation District.  The socks will be removed after all earth disturbance is complete and the road and sidewalks are complete.
