On July 8, 2021 the Board of Commissioners Committee of the Whole voted to move agenda item "d" under "New Business", a "Motion to consider a Resolution of an offer of dedication on 646, 650, 700, 702, 706, 722, 730, 740, 748, and 760 Washington Lane, and 1404 and 1405 Autumn Road" to the August 12, 2021 Board of Commissioners meeting for a full vote of the Board on the matter. The matter was not considered and moved to a date to be determined. On May 9, 2024, the Board of Commissioners at their regular meeting voted to adopt resolution no. 24-022, accepting the dedication of lands. Project team held a public meeting on Thursday, August 28, 2019 at the Township Building to review the project scope, timelines, and answer resident questions.

The project design is commencing on all phases of the project with an emphasis on the stormwater improvements along Greenwood Avenue and Washington Lane to Newbold Road. As well as, the trail installation along Abington Friends School to Alverthorpe Park.  The Township will be working towards producing bid packages for these sections of the project in 2020, as well as, progressing design plans for the improvements at Meetinghouse Road and Jenkintown Road.  The Township has also received additional funding for traffic signal upgrades at the intersection of Meetinghouse Road and Fox Chase Road through state ARLE funding. 

Phases 1 & 3

The Township will be approaching properties along Phases 1 & 3 regarding needed construction and permanent easements. It was discovered that the Township never accepted dedicated lands from the original subdivisions along Washington Lane in 1955, 1956, 1957, and 1966. This discovery prompted the need to accept the dedication and on July 8, 2021 the Board of Commissioners Committee of the Whole voted to send agenda item "d" under "New Business" to the August 12, 2021 Board of Commissioners meeting for a vote on the acceptance of the lands as outlined in the section above. 

Phases 2 & 4 

Phases 2 and 4 of the Abington Jenkintown Connections project are continuing with the PA DEP, Utility and Easement coordination expected to be complete in Fall 2021. Advertisements and BID documents are expected to be complete in Fall/Winter 2021 with construction beginning in early 2022.  Due to COVID-19, the project experienced several delays and changes in funding. The project team continued to advance the project by applying for and being awarded a EDCDI grant in the amount of $60,000 and a Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) Multimodal Transportation Fund  (MTF) grant in the amount of $150,000. Both grants will be used on Phase 2 improvements. 

Phase 5 

On July 8, 2021, the Board of Commissioners voted to approve funding the stormwater design needed for Phase 5 of the project. Upon completion of the design, it is the Township's intent to reapply for multimodal transportation funding and other applicable funding opportunities as they become available.

The Township will also investigate accepting dedicated lands from the original subdivisions along Washington Lane in 1955, 1956, 1957, and 1966.

Phases 2 & 4 

Phases 2 and 4 of the Abington Jenkintown Connections project are in the final approvals with PennDOT with advertisement of the project expected in the 1^st Quarter of 2023 for the stormwater and trail improvements. These improvements are funding in part by the Transportation Alternatives Set-Aside (TASA) federal program.  Additionally, the Township has progressed the design and approvals for the additional improvements to be funded under an EDCDI grant in the amount of $60,000 and a Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) Multimodal Transportation Fund  (MTF) grant in the amount of $150,000. These improvements are anticipated to be completed in conjunction with the trail and stormwater improvements.

Phase 5 

Design continues to progress on the Phase 5 intersection improvements and coordination with PennDOT continued throughout  2022 and into 2023. The Township applied for  multimodal transportation funding in July 2022 and awaits the grant award announcements.  Pending those announcements, the Township intends to continue applying for additional project funds in 2023 as they become available.

Phases 2 & 4 

The anticipated project schedule for Phases 2 & 4 is below: 

• October 2023 - November 2023: The contractor will be working on locating underground utilities in the field prior to starting any work.
• December 2023: Expected to start physical work once inlets, manholes, and pipe are received. At that time, drainage work will begin along Greenwood Avenue. Additionally, work may begin for a small segment of trail within the park area.
• March 2024 - August 2024: Work will ramp up during this time with anticipated completion of the project in August 2024.

Phase 5 

Design continues to progress on the Phase 5 intersection improvements and coordination with PennDOT. The Township is reviewing funding options and intends to apply for additional project funds as they become available. 

PECO Work 

PECO will be upgrading and installing new equipment to enhance the local natural gas infrastructure. This includes installing new underground pipe, which is more durable, enhances safety and improves service reliability.

Work is expected to begin November 27, 2023 in the area of Greenwood Ave from Washington Ln to Jenkintown Rd. Work will be completed on Monday through Friday from 7 AM– 4 PM. The project is expected to be completed in January 2024.

Please note, this work is not part of the Abington Jenkintown Connections Project but impacts the same area.

Phases 1 & 3

Stormwater management work planned under Phases 1 & 3 has been decoupled from the AJC project. The stormwater work was originally proposed separately but was encompassed within the AJC project to increase efficiencies. However, due to delays in Phase 1 & 3 and the high priority of stormwater management, the stormwater work will proceed separate from the installation of sidewalks. Stormwater work is expected to begin on February 7, 2024, and continue Monday through Friday from 7 AM - 3:30 PM. It will take approximately 8 -10 weeks to complete. Other work planned under Phase 1 & 3, including sidewalks, continues to move forward as coordination with property owners continues and the accepting of dedicated lands from the original subdivisions along Washington Lane in 1955, 1956, 1957, and 1966. 

Completion date is mid-October 2024. 

Phases 2 & 4 

The anticipated project schedule for Phases 2 & 4 is below: 

• February 2024: The contractor will continue site preparation and work that can be completed weather permitting. 
• March 2024 - October 2024: Work will ramp up during this time with anticipated completion of the project in mid-October 2024.

Phase 5 

Design continues to progress on the Phase 5 intersection improvements and coordination with PennDOT. The Township is reviewing funding options and intends to apply for additional project funds as they become available.
