Pothole Maintenance and Reporting
Abington Township Public Works Department’s Street Maintenance Division is responsible for repairing potholes on Abington Township owned roadways. The Street Maintenance Division has a proactive approach to finding and resolving potholes. The Township’s street network is divided into 12 sections and routinely monitored for new potholes. Typically, two repair trucks are working each day to repair roadways and keep conditions safe.
Once aware of a pot hole, the Street Maintenance crew will dispatch to the site to fill in the hole. During business hours, this usually occurs within an hour of the report. Reports taken on weekends or after-hours will be filled in at the beginning of the next business day, unless a safety issue is deemed. If a pothole creates an unsafe condition, an emergency crew will be called in to make the repair.
The type of repair is dependent upon the weather. Ideally, a permanent repair will be made using hot asphalt. If the weather is too cold for this method, a cold patch will be used until a permanent patch can be completed.
