December 2021 Update

Work Performed to Date

Driveway adjustments continued during December.  All asphalt wearing course placement is complete throughout the project.  Installation of permanent signs as well as permanent line striping is complete.  Traffic on Edge Hill Road is now permanently one-way between Tyson Ave. and Bradfield Road.  

Upcoming Work to be Performed

In January of 2022, completion of driveway adjustments will take place as weather permits as well as remaining contract items.

As of November 30, 2020, the contractor has completed drainage construction on Edge Hill Road between Custer Ave. and Bradfield Road.  Curb and sidewalk construction is ongoing on Edge Hill Road between Custer Ave. and Bradfield Road.  Roadway paving of the first two courses of asphalt has taken place on Edge Hill Road to approximately 500 feet east of Custer Ave.  Installation of new concrete steps and walkways at resident properties continues on Edge Hill Road as well as landscape retaining walls.  Installation of new traffic signal poles and mast arms is ongoing on Jenkintown Road at the intersections of Tyson Ave. and Edge Hill Road/SEPTA driveway.  Construction of new traffic signal foundations is ongoing at the intersection of Edge Hill Road and Easton Road.

Work Performed to Date

Work resumed on the project on May 1, 2020.  As of May 31, 2020, the contractor has installed all drainage on Tyson Ave. between Edge Hill Road and Easton Road.  90% of construction of concrete curb and sidewalk is complete on the south side of Tyson Ave. between Edge Hill Road and Easton Road.  Curb and sidewalk construction on the north side is 90% complete up to Bradfield Road.  Curb, sidewalk and roadway construction on the south side of Tyson Ave. between Bradfield Road and Easton Road is ongoing.  Asphalt paving of the first two courses is complete on the north and south side of Tyson Ave. from Edge Hill Road to just west of Bradfield Road.  Construction of landscape retaining walls is complete on Tyson Ave. The utility companies have completed relocation of gas and water services to individual resident properties on Tyson Ave.  Installation of all three new drainage crossings under the SEPTA tracks is complete. 

Upcoming Work to be Performed   

In June of 2020, curb, sidewalk and roadway construction will continue including asphalt paving on the south and north side of Tyson Ave. up to Easton Road.  Relocation of gas service laterals is expected to restart on Edge Hill Road. Construction of drainage, curb, sidewalk and roadway will take place at the west end of Tyson Ave. at Jenkintown Road.  After curb, sidewalk and paving of asphalt binder course is complete on Tyson Ave., construction on Edge Hill Road will start utilizing a detour.

Due to the Governor's mandate, the project site has been shut down since March 13, 2020. The site will be shut down until Monday, May 4, 2020.

Work Performed to Date

As of March 31, 2020, the contractor has installed all drainage on Tyson Ave. between Edge Hill Road and Bradfield Road.  90% of construction of concrete curb and sidewalk is complete on the south side of Tyson Ave. between Edge Hill Road and Carson Ave.  Curb and sidewalk construction on the north side is 90% complete up to Bradfield Road.  Asphalt paving of the first two courses is complete on the north and south side of Tyson Ave. from Edge Hill Road to just west of Bradfield Road.  Construction of landscape retaining walls continued on Tyson Ave. The utility companies have completed relocation of gas and water services to individual resident properties on Tyson Ave.  Installation of drainage on Tyson Ave. at Easton Road has started.  Line striping on Tyson Ave. between Edge Hill Road and Carson Ave. took place with two-way traffic shifted to the middle of Tyson Ave.  Reconstruction of the south side of Tyson Ave. just west of Bradfield Road started.  Gas service relocations continued on Edge Hill Road.  Installation of all three new drainage crossings under the SEPTA tracks is complete. 

Upcoming Work to be Performed   

Work on the project has stopped as a result of a directive from the Governor of Pennsylvania due to the Coronavirus.  Once work resumes, drainage work will continue at the east end of Tyson Ave. and at Jenkintown Road.  Relocation of gas service laterals will resume.  Construction of curb, sidewalk and roadway will resume on the east end of Tyson Ave.  Construction of landscape retaining walls will resume on Tyson Ave.  After curb, sidewalk and paving of binder course is complete on Tyson Ave., construction at the west end of Edge Hill Road will start utilizing a detour.

SEPTA Track Drainage Installation (Updated September 6, 2019)

Drilling and jacking work under the SEPTA tracks at three separate locations will begin Friday, July 12, 2019. Work has been postponed on the completion of Crossing 3. The work at each of the three locations will start on a Friday night at 6:00 pm and will be completed Sunday night. Due to unexpected delays, work has been postponed. 

The UPDATED schedule will be as follows: 

•  Crossing No. 3 TENTATIVE: Work has not yet been scheduled. This crossing is behind 854 and 860 Tyson Avenue.

As of March 29, 2019, the contractor has completed drainage pipe installation in the Hillside Cemetery (Hillside Drive).  Placement of the first level of asphalt pavement is complete on Hillside Drive.  The contractor has started drainage installation on Tyson Ave. between Edge Hill Road and Edgecomb Road.   The utility companies have started relocation of water and gas mains as well as individual services to resident properties.  Drainage installation continues on the side roads between Tyson Ave. and Edge Hill Road. 

Upcoming Work to be Performed  

In April, the contractor will continue drainage on Tyson Ave. and the side roads between Tyson Ave. and Edge Hill Road.  Drainage installation under the SEPTA railroad tracks will start.  Water and gas main relocations will continue, and utility pole relocations will start in April.  Traffic on sections of Tyson Ave. will be closed during daytime working hours to all traffic except local traffic.

Beyond April, drainage installation will continue on the south side of Tyson Road and paving of Hillside Drive will be completed.

March 2019 

As of February 28, 2019, the contractor has installed 95% of the drainage facilities in the Hillside Cemetery (Hillside Road). The contractor has completed removal of the existing median on Tyson Avenue and placed temporary paving that will be used for future Traffic Control staging. The contractor has cleared trees required to allow for construction and installed construction access roads to the work area for proposed drainage under the SEPTA railroad tracks. Drainage installation has started on the side roads between Tyson Avenue and Edge Hill Road.

Upcoming Work to be Performed  

In March, the contractor will complete drainage in the Hillside Cemetery and start paving of affected roads in the cemetery when the weather is warmer. Drainage under the SEPTA railroad tracks will start. Drainage construction will continue of the side roads between Tyson Avenue and Edge Hill Road and start on Tyson Avenue. Water and gas main relocations will start in March.

Beyond March, drainage installation will continue on the south side of Tyson Avenue. Traffic on Tyson Avenue will remain in both directions with traffic shifted to the north.

As of January 31, 2019, the contractor has installed 75% of the drainage facilities in the Hillside Cemetery (Hillside Road) and expects to complete this drainage by the end of February 2019.  The contractor has started removal of existing median on Tyson Road and placed temporary paving that will be used for future Traffic Control staging.  The contractor has cleared trees required to allow for construction and installed construction access roads to the work area for proposed drainage under the SEPTA railroad tracks.
